Description
Gay Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with an extension from the early 19th century and some alterations from the late 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure that is clad and extended in brick, topped with a tiled roof. The west front has two storeys and three windows, with the central bay slightly advanced. Each window has a canopy supported by consoles and features 20th-century top-hung casements. The ground floor has a central entrance with a pilastered doorcase, an open pediment, a radially glazed fan-light, and a glazed door. Inside, there are remnants of a hall and a cross-wing at the rear. The hall consists of one-and-a-half bays with a heavily moulded 15th-century ceiling on the ground floor, which appears to have been inserted into an open hall. One visible roof truss has an arch-braced cambered tie-beam, with a vertical and two raking curved struts leading to the collar. The cross-wing has two bays, and its central truss features two raking curved struts.
