Description

The barn and stables adjoining Walton Farmhouse to the east side were built in the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. Constructed from brick and topped with a machine-tiled roof, the building has an L-plan layout. The barn is oriented roughly north/south and features five bays, including a central wagon bay with opposing cart entries and double doors. It has header ventilation courses and a dentilled eaves cornice. The south gable end includes a stable door and a rectangular light on the ground floor, with a loft door positioned above.

The stable, which is attached to the northwest, has two levels and also features a dentilled eaves cornice, spanning roughly four bays. Its south elevation has a ground floor two-light window and three stable doors, one of which has been inserted into a larger opening with a cambered head, while another includes a transom light and a cambered head. There is a square loft opening as well.

At the west gable end, there is a single-bay wing with an archway featuring a cambered head, which has been fitted with mid-20th century garage doors and a two-light window at the upper level. Additionally, a single-storey addition connects this wing to Walton Farmhouse, featuring a three-light casement window and a door on its front elevation. The mid-20th century additions to the barn are not considered of special architectural interest. The barn and stables are located on a prominent hillside next to Walton Farmhouse and are included for their group value.
