Description
No 1 and 1A The Square is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and has a tile roof. It stands two storeys tall with an attic that is illuminated by two gabled dormers. There are decorative bands on each storey and a total of three windows: two glazing bar sashes and a central window that is blind, all of which are topped with rubbed brick heads featuring keystones. On the ground floor, there is a flat roof supported by slender paired cast iron columns. Flanking the central entrance, which has a wooden doorcase and a six-panel door from the 20th century, are two tripartite sashes. The building is prominently located in The Square, directly opposite the foot of Bear Hill.
