Description
The Old Smithy is a former smithy that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the mid-19th century and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with ridge vents and a rebated eaves detail. It is a single-storey structure with three bays arranged in an L-plan. The central bay slightly projects and has segment arched double doors beneath a pedimented gable. To the right is a renewed glazing bar window, while to the left is a boarded window, both of which are segment headed. The right gable is blank, and the left gable features a late 20th-century door set within a 19th-century surround. There is also a single-storey rear wing. Inside, the unit on the left has an exposed roof truss and remnants of a former hearth, while the unit on the right is said to have been refitted in the late 20th century.
