Description

This is a house, now used as two shops and offices, dating to the early 18th century. It was listed in 1952 and is situated opposite number 23 and to the north of the old Smithy. The building is constructed of painted brick with a tile roof and a gable-end stack. It is two storeys high with an attic containing two gabled dormers. Bands delineate the floors and brick coped verges are present. The front has two windows on each floor. The windows above have rubbed brick heads with keystones, and the windows below have been widened; to the left is a 16-pane sash window, and to the right a 3-light casement. On the ground floor, to the right is a plate glass shop window and to the left a 2-pane shop window. A central 19th-century entrance to number 16 has a wooden doorcase with fluted pilasters and scroll brackets supporting a flat canopy, surmounted by a modern glazed door. To the left-hand corner is an entrance to number 15 with a wooden architrave and a modern glazed door. The interior of the building was not inspected. The building is included for its group value.
