Description
No 5 Red Lion Street is a house dating from the 15th century, with some rebuilding in the late 18th century and some alterations from the late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill and a tile roof. The street-facing range is from the 18th century, while the rear wing dates back to the 15th century. It stands two storeys high and has a dentilled brick cornice. There are two windows on the upper floor, both of which are 3-light casements. The ground floor also has 3-light casements with segmental heads. The entrance is slightly to the left of centre and features a wooden architrave and a plain door. The framing at the rear consists of one bay with close-studding on the first floor. Originally, the building extended further back, as indicated by a door at the first floor level. The gable truss has a cambered collar and likely clasped purlins. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest.
