Description
The Square's numbers 5 and 6 are a pair of houses dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The central bays are constructed of thin 17th-century brick, distinguished by a first-floor band course and segmental window heads. The outer bays feature chequer brickwork, with the taller bay to the right also having a first-floor band course and dentil eaves. A rendered plinth is present. The roofs are covered with old tiles, and there are three brick chimneys. The three bays to the left are single-storey with an attic, featuring gabled eaves-line dormers. The bay to the right is two storeys high. An old three-light leaded casement window is visible in the attic of the left bay. Other windows have 20th-century paired casements with wooden bars, with the ground-floor windows set in altered openings. There are 20th-century doors in the outer bays, the right one having a segmental head.
