Description
The War Memorial in Brill, dating from around 1920, is constructed from Portland stone. It features a cusped cross with crocket finials atop a tapered octagonal column, which has brattishing at the capital. The memorial stands on an octagonal plinth set on a stone step, which is raised on a base of octagonal tiered concrete steps with three risers. One face of the plinth bears a carved inscription that reads: 'JESUS SAID, GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS'. The names of those who died in World War I are carved into the flanking faces. On the opposite side of the plinth, there are later brass plaques on three faces that commemorate the men from Brill who died in both World Wars, along with their names on the flanking plaques. The memorial is located in the village green, which is enclosed by stone bollards linked with chain.
