Description

The bridge over the lake in West Park, Wolverhampton, was built in 1880. It features cast-iron construction with ashlar abutments and piers. The bridge has cast-iron segmental arches with lattice work spandrels, and it is marked with the date 1880. The balustrade includes interlaced arcading and a handrail, which has been partly repaired with timber. The ashlar piers at each end of the bridge have embattled parapets. The flat deck of the bridge is approximately 5 meters wide and 20 meters long. West Park was designed by V.H. Vertegans between 1879 and 1881, on the site of the former Broad Meadows racecourse.
