Description
The footbridge at the junction with Wolverhampton Level, located approximately 230 meters east of Bridge Street in Smethwick, is a canal footbridge built in 1828. It is constructed of cast iron and features brick abutments with sandstone dressings. The bridge has a single elliptical arch, with each side made of two castings that are bolted to a central "keystone." The design includes pierced saltire crosses and a band of quatrefoils below the handrail. The spandrel is inscribed with "HORSELEY IRON WORKS STAFFORDSHIRE 1828." The southern abutment has been partly repaired with 20th-century brick and concrete.
