Description
The War Memorial in Victoria Park is a First World War memorial dating from around 1920. It is constructed from granite and bronze. The memorial features a tapering column with a square plan and re-entrant corners, which is raised on steps that splay outwards at the base. Above the column is a moulded cornice topped with a cap that has a flaming urn. On the side facing the road, there is a carved wreath.
Attached to the front of the column is a bronze statue of a woman holding an olive branch, which sits on a base with a curved front. A plaque on the base is inscribed with the words: "Wait but for the yield of all our toil and God shall not forget." On the left and right sides of the base, there are bronze relief panels; the left panel depicts an infantry scene, while the right panel shows ships with biplanes flying overhead.
