Description

The building at 23-27 Bridge Street is a group of shops and offices dating to 1899. Constructed from sandstone with a tile roof, it presents a symmetrical design across three storeys, with an attic level. The ground floor features two shop fronts, each flanked by pilasters with granite shafts. Above each shop frontage is a two-storey canted bay window projecting as an oriel; carved foliage decoration at the base of the right-hand window includes the date "1899". Both oriel windows have swan-necked pediments springing from the cornice above the central first-floor light, and a parapet above the upper cornice. Two steeply-pitched shaped gables, incorporating carved decoration and round-headed attic windows, rise from the attic level. A central doorway is flanked by pilasters and features a round head with carved spandrel decoration. A pediment supported by brackets bears the inscription "Imperial Buildings." The building forms a tight grouping with the adjacent property at number 29.
