Description

WALSALL MB BRIDGE STREET (north side) SP 0198 NW 13/16 Nos 1, 3, 5, 7, & 9

GV II Row of shops and offices. Late C19. Red brick with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Three storeys. Five main bays, with narrow bay above entrance to right of second main bay. On the ground floor are shop fronts separated by Ionic pilasters with granite shafts supporting an entablature with moulded cornice. The bays are separated on the upper storeys by a giant order of Composite pilasters from which spring segmental super-arches with keystones. Above is a dentilled cornice. The first floor windows are stone oriels with corners rounded on plan and with pilasters as mullions. The second floor windows have their upper corners rounded and have a central Composite column as a mullion. Doorway has round arch with keystone carved as head. Gable chimneys.
