Description
The Town Hall, built in 1903 by J S Gibson, is a public hall located on Leicester Street in Walsall. It features a facade made of sandstone ashlar in a Baroque style. The facade includes a central moulded pediment and flanking towers with cornices. A lower entrance is set forward, with concave outer sides and channelled rustication. On either side of the doorway, there are windows with architraves. The doorway itself has an architrave with central engaged Tuscan columns within a round arch, and the tympanum is carved with two figures and the date "1903".
Inside, the hall has a shallow barrel vault and decorative plasterwork in a Baroque style. The side walls are adorned with an entablature featuring a modillion cornice, and above each window, there is a pediment on brackets. At the south end of the hall, there is a gallery, while the north end is apsidal, containing a stage and a raised organ. The Town Hall adjoins the Council House, which is also listed.
