Description
This building, located at 144A, 145, 146, 147, and 147A Lichfield Street, is a group of shops and offices dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick with sandstone dressings and features a slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has three main bays, with two narrower bays in between that contain doorways leading to offices.
On the ground floor, the left-hand bay retains an original shop front, while others may be concealed behind later fascias. The outer edges of the facade and the doorways are adorned with Ionic pilasters that have granite shafts. Above these is a moulded cornice. The first floor features the three main bays flanked by Ionic pilasters that support an entablature with a pulvinated frieze, which is slightly bowed above the bowed tripartite windows that have pilaster reveals and Ionic columns serving as mullions. These columns also have granite shafts. The intermediate bays contain windows with moulded stone surrounds.
On the second floor, there are Corinthian pilasters with an entablature. The main windows on this level are paired sashes without glazing bars, with a column as the central mullion, while the intermediate windows have carved stone surrounds. At the top, there are three shaped gables decorated with sandstone. The building features chimneys on the gables, positioned in front of the ridge, and to the left of the central gable.
