Description
Lloyd's Bank is a bank built around 1900, designed in the Baroque style. It features a limestone ashlar exterior and a slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has five bays facing Park Street, four bays facing The Bridge, and one bay that is diagonally positioned at the corner. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a cornice, round-headed windows with keystones, and decorative cartouches between the bays under the cornice. The upper storeys are distinguished by giant Corinthian pilasters. Each bay contains a recessed two-storey canted bay window with pilasters acting as mullions, sash windows with glazing bars, a cornice on the first floor, and a pediment on the second floor. The diagonal bay is blank on the first and second floors but features a carving of a beehive. Above the modillion cornice, there is a balustrade. The doorways include one in the third bay facing The Bridge with a round head, and another in the left-hand bay facing Park Street with a pediment. The bank was captured in a photograph by Billy Meikle around 1910 and is also shown in an earlier photograph from 1904, which depicts both the bank and its predecessor at the corner of Park Street and Bradford Street.
