Description
This is a group of two houses and a shop, built around 1875 and altered around 1890. The building is constructed of brick with stone and brick detailing, and has a slate mansard roof. It features first and second-floor impost bands, a modillioned eaves cornice, a low coped parapet and two gable stacks. A slightly projecting single bay is located in the centre. The building is three storeys plus attics, arranged with a four-window range. A near-central, canted oriel window has plain sashes in shouldered openings. This is flanked to the left by a single plain sash, and to the right by a pair of similar sashes, all with segmental heads, hood moulds, keystones and aprons. Above these are five additional plain sashes arranged in a 1:2:2 pattern. Above that again is a large, central, pedimented dormer with plain sashes, flanked by single box dormers with two-light casements. A full-width, grained wooden shopfront features on the ground floor. It includes doorcases with panelled pilasters and foliate scroll brackets to a stepped-forward cornice. The panelled left door has a round-headed opening with a keystone and cast iron grille. The smaller right door has a plain fanlight. A single-pane shop window is in the centre, with tilting toplights, and adjacent to the right is a splayed recess with a glazed door.
