Description

Melton Wingate Opticians is a former end pavilion of a terrace, now functioning as a house and an opticians, dating from 1766 and a late 19th-century addition around 1880. It was built for Dr. Bernard Wilson, the vicar of Newark. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped pantile roof with a single ridge stack. It has a plinth, first and second floor bands, and modillion eaves. The windows are adorned with brick flat arches. The structure has three storeys and a total of 12 windows arranged in a 4 x 3 configuration, including four 12-pane sash windows and four six-pane sash windows above. The entrance consists of an off-centre six-panel door with an overlight, flanked on the left by a single 12-pane sash and on the right by two similar sashes. The left side of the building has three blank windows on each floor, with the ground floor left window replaced by a door. The right side features three 12-pane sashes, with the rightmost window blank, and above, there are three six-pane sashes. A single-storey late 19th-century addition, made of colourwashed brick, has a hipped slate roof and includes a glazed corner doorway with two single-pane windows on the left side and one on the right. The adjoining terrace was demolished around 1964.
