Description

The Lodge to City South Campus at Birmingham City University, dated 1879 and marked with the owner's initials REC, was originally associated with a now-demolished house. It is constructed of red brick and features a tiled roof adorned with ornamental ridge tiles and a prominent central ribbed chimney stack. The building has a roughly cruciform layout, with a gable facing the road that is half-timbered and includes brick nogging, as well as two arched panels of blue Japanese sunflower tiles. A hip-roofed porch is located at the angle of the building. The drive side has a half-hipped gable with intricately pierced bargeboards and a terracotta finial. The ground floor features a canted bay window, while the upper floor has a Gothic traceried window with ogee glazing bars made of white timber, flanked by panels of sunflower tiles and supported by a foliated bressumer.
