Description

This is a lodge originally built around 1840 as part of a now-demolished house. It was significantly remodelled in a High Victorian Gothic style around 1870. The lodge is constructed of diapered red and blue brick with a patterned tile roof. Surviving elements from the original Tudor design include two four-centred arches at the angle and two mullioned windows with traceried iron glazing bars, located on the side facing the drive (now St George’s Close). Towards Westbourne Road, a square projection, added in the later period, features an apsidal tourelle with five lancet windows, made of banded red and blue brick with stone detailing, and a steep spire with an iron finial. A steep gable, also from the later period and attached to the tourelle, projects over the earlier work on brackets, and incorporates a hipped rectangular oriel window supported by brackets.
