Description
No. 16 Highfield Road is a two-storey detached villa built around 1840-1850, constructed from stucco and featuring a coach house. The front of the building has three bays with a plinth and a rusticated ground floor that extends up to a sill band at the first floor. Above this, there is a frieze with a bed mould, and the roof is hipped with slate and flat eaves, complemented by stucco chimney stacks.
On the ground floor, the windows are plain revealed sashes, while the first floor features broadly spaced sashes within architrave surrounds that rise from the sill band. The heads of these windows are flanked by console brackets leading to moulded cornices, and all glazing bars remain intact. The entrance has a panelled door set in panelled reveals, framed by panelled pilaster strips and a cornice with a blocking course; the building originally had a porch.
To the north, there is a single-storey wing that is also rusticated and includes a pediment gable, with a large window added in the later 19th century. A link wall with a side entrance on the left connects the coach house, which has a 4-centred arch entrance, to the main building; a later window has been inserted into the pediment of the coach house.
