Description
No 9 Ampton Road is a detached two-storey villa built around 1850-1855, featuring Italianate details and constructed from stucco. The villa has four bays and includes a set-back service wing that is screened by a wall connecting to a double coach house. The main facade is characterized by a plinth and rusticated quoins, a first-floor sill course, and a bed string to the frieze adorned with rosettes between consoles that support a flat boxed eaves cornice. The gable end roof is covered with slate and features copings and corniced chimneys.
The first-floor windows are framed with eared architrave surrounds and shallow moulded cornices, while the ground-floor windows are set in panelled architraves with consoles on anthemion stops that support cornices, with sills also resting on consoles. A fluted Corinthian column porch enhances the entrance, which features a round-headed doorway with panelled reveals and a two-leaf six-panel door topped with a plain fanlight. The link wall to the coach house includes a secondary entrance with a cornice supported by consoles. The coach house itself has two segmental arched coach doors, an impost band arched above, shallow rusticated quoins similar to those on the house, and a string to the frieze with panels between consoles supporting the boxed eaves of a hipped slate roof.
