Description
AMPTON ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 No 10 SP 0585 SE 45/4 II GV 2. Dated 1860, a detached Tudor-Gothic villa with coach house. Two storeys and attic red brick with sandstone dressings. Two bay front, the right hand broader bay breaking forward with bargeboarded finialed gable and similar but smaller gable over first floor window in left hand bay, breaking through eaves. Steep gable end slate roofs with bands of shaped slates and fleur de lys ridge tiles. Chimney stacks with weathered stone caps and octagonal brick shafts. Flush stone quoins and window dressings. Two or 3 light stone mullioned and transomed windows with drip moulds on carved stops. Ground floor of right hand break has canted stone dressed bay window with inscribed quatrefoil panelled parapet. Ground floor left has tripartite window with taller centre light, the dripmould carried up and over with motto scroll. Recessed side wing has 2 storey faced canted porch with crenellated parapet; carved head stops to drip mould of window above 4 centred arch doorway with panelled spandrels. The attached coach house is designed in the same idiom with bargeboards and overhanging eaves.
