Description
No. 11 Ampton Road is a Tudor-Gothic detached villa, built around 1855-60. It is an asymmetrical design, with two main storeys and an attic, and is constructed of white roughcast with stucco quoins and dressings. The plan features two gabled bays, one projecting forward from the other on both the front and rear facades, alongside a crosswing and a lower service wing to the rear. The gables feature delicately pierced bargeboards with finials. The roofs are steeply pitched slate, with bands of scalloped slates and decorative masking tiles. A saddlestone surmounted by an ogee moulded chimney stack is present on the rear wing gable; otherwise, chimney shafts are of red brick, with some featuring tall terracotta Tudor pattern pots. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with 2, 3 and 4 lights, set in splayed reveals. There are rectangular mullioned bay windows on the ground floor of the front elevation. A verandah is located on the east garden front. The entrance is on the west side, within the angle of the crosswing, and is canted with a Tudor arched door, panelled spandrels, and an arcaded parapet.
