Description

The Palm House at the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston was built in 1871. It is a large square glasshouse topped with a pyramidal roof that rises in two stages. The exterior features panelled Corinthian pilasters set on a blue brick plinth, along with thin moulded vertical glazing bars. Inside, there is a central square area surrounded by round-headed iron arcades supported by twisted Corinthian columns, which have scrolling openwork spandrels. The Palm House connects on the right with the West Terrace Glasshouse.
