Description

This is a former estate cottage or farmhouse, likely dating from the early 18th century but altered during the residential development of the Calthorpe estate around 1830-40. The building is set back from Carpenter Road amongst newer housing. It is constructed of stucco-faced brick in an L-plan. The three-bay west-facing front has projecting, cabled outer bays. It has a gabled clay tile roof with overhanging eaves and brick chimney stacks, with paired or tripled diagonally set shafts. Purlins project from the gable ends. The west front features 2 and 3-light casement windows with thin mullions and lattice glazing. Above, beneath the gables, are two small canted bay windows with lattic lights. A gabled trellis porch is present. The rear wing has iron-framed casement windows with small diamond panes. The building was originally timber-framed.
