Description

79 to 83 Colmore Row is a late 19th-century stone building located in the City Centre of Birmingham. It stands three storeys tall and features five bays, with the inner three bays slightly advanced. The ground floor has an arched side entrance accessed by steps, topped by a segmental hood supported by headless birds as brackets, alongside a large arched window set within a vermiculated surround. The principal entrance is also arched and leads into a porch with coupled Corinthian columns and a balcony, followed by another large window and a side entrance.

On the first floor, there are three centrally located windows with balconies, flanked by unfluted Corinthian columns that support heavily ornate segmental pediments adorned with urns. The outer windows are framed in moulded surrounds and feature a detached segmental pediment. The second floor showcases an arcade of seven small arched windows, embellished with intricate sculpture in the spandrels and aprons, depicting Lorenzo Ghiberti on the left and Benvenuto Cellini on the right. Above this, a richly decorated cornice with brackets and an attic balustrade completes the design.
