Description

The Birmingham and Midland Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, located at 105 and 107 Edmund Street in the City Centre, was built between 1890 and 1891 by architects Jethro A. Cossins and Peacock. This building is made of brick and terracotta with a tiled roof and does not follow a local architectural style. It stands three storeys high, plus a basement and attic, and features three bays. The outer two bays are slightly projected forward and are topped with Dutch gables, while the central bay has a shallow canted bay window that extends through the first and second floors, set beneath a segment-headed arch. The entrance door is located below this window, and above it is a three-light dormer window with a pediment in the roof. On the left side, which leads to Nos 70 to 78 Barwick Street, there is an arched doorway and a chimney stack that rises through the Dutch gable, reflecting a style reminiscent of Norman Shaw.
