Description
The Skin Hospital, located at 71 to 79 John Bright Street in the City Centre, was built in 1891. It is constructed of brick with stucco dressings and features a tiled roof, designed in a style reminiscent of the Norman Shaw architectural movement. The building stands three storeys high, plus a basement, and has five bays that step towards the road. The first two bays have small pediments, while the third bay contains the main entrance, which is accessed by steps and features a porch that supports a later canted structure. The fourth bay is narrow and topped with an octagonal storey that has a louvred cupola, and the fifth bay is broad, featuring a subsidiary door and a Venetian-type window that displays the date. All windows are tall sashes, adorned with pediments on keystones or segmental heads.
