Description
Nos 80 to 83 on New Street, built in the later 19th century, are designed in a Venetian Gothic style. The building is constructed from brick with stone dressings and stands four storeys tall, featuring five bays divided by a complex system of pilasters, including a corner towards Pinfold Street. The ground floor has modern shop fronts.
On the first floor, there is a shallow-pointed arched window, a segment-headed window, and three more shallow-arched windows. The second floor includes a couplet of shouldered windows with colonnette and shouldered painted super-arches, a round-arched window with a boldly decorated pointed super-arch, and three additional couplets of windows. The thin floor features a couplet of segment-headed windows with colonnette and pointed super-arches, an arched window with a pointed super-arch, and three more couplets of windows, two of which have been altered. The building is topped with an elaborately bracketted eaves cornice and parapet, although this is missing in two bays.
