Description

This is a row of ten slightly stepped, two-storey houses built around 1840. The houses, numbered 47 to 59 Villa Road, are constructed of red brick with gable-ended slate roofs and flat eaves. The chimneys have band cornices. Stucco plinths and a first-floor sill band sweep to the steps. Each house has a two-bay front with revealed glazing bar sash windows. The window surrounds are stucco and panelled, with consoles supporting cornices topped by block pediments. The round-headed doorways feature rubbed brick arches with moulded doorcases in antis, impost blocks, panelled reveals and soffits. The doors are four-panelled with looped radial glazing in the fanlights. Alternate houses include a third bay with a blind window above an entrance to a tunnel passage.
