Description
A row of ten small houses, built around 1850 to 1860 as part of a terrace, located on Coombe Road in Dartmouth. The houses are constructed with stucco over stone rubble, with the front face appearing as ashlar. Brick chimneyshafts rise from the outer party walls; two of these are wider and feature panels and old chimney pots. The roofs are slate-covered.
The houses were originally designed as four identical pairs, with each half of a pair mirroring the other in layout. Each house is one room wide and two rooms deep, featuring paired central doorways leading to stairhalls, and stacks in the outer party walls.
The two-storey exterior presents a symmetrical four-window front for each pair. Window and door surrounds are chamfered with straight-cut stops, creating a slightly shouldered appearance around the openings. The outer windows are larger and square-headed, while the first floor features narrower, round-headed windows positioned centrally. Original windows, as seen in numbers 16, 17, and 20, are four-pane sashes with horns in the main rooms, and smaller, un-divided sashes above the round-headed doorways. Number 16 has a fanlight with a radial pattern of glazing bars; the others have plain fanlights. Numbers 16, 17, and 18 retain their original six-panel doors, while other houses have replacement windows and doors within the original openings.
The interior has not been inspected.
