Description

Primrose House is a villa, built around 1850 as one of a group of three. The exterior is stucco applied to a stone rubble core, with brick chimney shafts and a slate roof. It has a plan in the shape of an 'L', with a two-room front block and a two-room service wing set at a right angle to the rear.

The front of the house is symmetrical, with two windows on each floor. A six-bay verandah extends across the ground floor, supported by plain posts and topped with a part-glazed, part-slated roof. Behind the verandah are French windows with glazing bars. The first floor has sash windows without glazing bars, set within segmental arch heads and eared stucco architraves. The stucco is designed to resemble ashlar, with vermiculated rustication to the quoins on each end. The eaves are supported by timber brackets. A round-headed side doorway has a stucco hood and leads to a panelled door with a fanlight and side lights filled with leaded stained glass; the doorway is flanked by Victorian tiles to the floor.

The interior retains original features, including decorative chimney pieces, moulded plaster cornices and a staircase.
