Description
No. 66 Binswood Avenue is a villa built in the mid-19th century, with later additions and alterations. It features pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and ashlar copings. The building has two storeys and three first-floor windows. The left side of the villa is advanced and gabled, with a ground-floor canted bay. A chamfered plinth supports the structure.
There are three roll-edged steps leading to the central entrance, which consists of a six-panel door with an overlight and sidelights set within a chamfered, segmental-arched opening. This opening is topped with a moulded hood that has face stops. The windows throughout are 1/1 sashes with sills and chamfered surrounds; all except those in the bay have hoodmoulds with face stops. The canted bay is embattled, and there is a decorative band on the first floor. The eaves cornice is prominent, and the front gable features a decorative quatrefoil in a recessed, chamfered square niche, topped with a pinnacle. Fleur-de-lys ridge tiles and end stacks complete the roof.
The interior has not been inspected. Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828, and No. 66 is part of an architectural group that includes Nos. 50-60 Binswood Avenue, No. 8 Kenilworth Road, and No. 3 Arlington Avenue.
