Description
No. 35 Beauchamp Avenue is a villa built around 1831, with later alterations including some from around 1990. It is likely designed by William Thomas. The villa features pinkish-brown brick in English Garden Wall bond on the sides and rear, while the front facade is finished in painted stucco and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a central hallway plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range and quoins at the angles.
The entrance has a cambered-arched opening with a tooled architrave. Within the recess, there is a four-panel door flanked by margin lights and topped with an overlight. The tall tripartite windows include side-lights and blind boxes, and there is a stepped band at the first floor. Above, there are four-pane windows. The cornice features dentil, egg-and-dart, and modillion detailing, along with a blocking course that has rod-on-ball balusters. There are end stacks, and a Doric screen to the left connects to No. 33.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Beauchamp Avenue was developed as Beauchamp Terrace around 1828-1831, with most of the north side completed by 1838. This villa is part of a group with Nos. 27-33 (odd) and 37, 39, and 41 Beauchamp Avenue.
