Description

39 Beauchamp Avenue is a villa built around 1831 by William Thomas. It features pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco front facade, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron verandah. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The corners are accentuated with quoins. The entrance has a segmental-headed opening with a tooled architrave, leading to a part-glazed, four-panel door flanked by margin lights and topped with an overlight that has diamond glazing bars.

The ground floor includes tripartite French windows with eight panes between four, which have blind boxes. There is a cornice on the first floor, and the windows are 2/2 sashes with Venetian shutters and boxes, supported by slender pilasters and moulded cornices. Decorative elements include a dentil, egg-and-dart, and modillion cornice, along with a blocking course featuring balusters topped by four balls. The hipped roof has end stacks and an attic space in the gable. The ground floor verandah is continuous, supported by slender, turned columns and has a glazed roof.

The interior has not been inspected. Beauchamp Avenue was originally laid out as Beauchamp Terrace around 1828, with most of the north side constructed by 1838. This villa forms part of an architectural group with Nos 27-37 (odd) and 41 Beauchamp Avenue.
