Description
No. 41 Beauchamp Avenue is a villa built around 1831 by William Thomas. It features pinkish-brown brick in English Garden Wall bond on the sides and rear, with a painted stucco front facade and a Welsh slate roof. The building has a central hallway plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, containing three first-floor windows.
The entrance has a segmental-arched opening with a tooled architrave. Within the recess is a part-glazed, four-panel door flanked by margin lights and topped with an overlight that has glazing bars. The windows are tripartite French casements, featuring eight-pane centers and four-pane sides, along with blind boxes. The first floor has a cornice, and the windows are 2/2 sashes with Venetian shutters and boxes, which are accented with slender pilasters and a cornice. The building also has an egg-and-dart and modillion cornice, a blocking course with balusters, and a hipped roof with end stacks and attics to the gables.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Beauchamp Avenue was laid out as Beauchamp Terrace around 1828-1831, with most of the north side constructed by 1838. This villa forms part of an architectural group with Nos 27-39 (odd) Beauchamp Avenue.
