Description
65 Beauchamp Avenue is a villa built around 1831 by William Thomas. It features pinkish-brown brick in English Garden Wall bond with painted stucco facades on the front and side, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron verandah. The building has two storeys and a two-window range. The front garden facade is accented by slender giant Tuscan pilasters at the corners. It has plate-glass French casements with divided overlights beneath the verandah, which displays an elongated scroll motif. The first floor contains 6/6 sash windows set in plain reveals with sills. The facade is completed with a frieze and a pediment, along with side and roof stacks.
The entrance is located on the right return, accessed by three steps leading to a part-glazed, three-panel door with an overlight. This door is framed by a surround of Tuscan pilasters, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course, with similar giant Tuscan pilasters at the angles.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Beauchamp Avenue was laid out as Beauchamp Terrace around 1828 to 1831, with most of the north side constructed by 1838.
