Description

This is a villa dating to around 1860, with later alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, and has a Welsh slate roof with ashlar copings.

The villa is two storeys high, with three first-floor windows. A projecting gable range to the left is topped with a gable, and features a ground-floor canted bay. It has a chamfered plinth. Three roll-edged steps lead to the central entrance, which has a part-glazed, six-panel door within a chamfered, segmental-arched opening, and a moulded hood with face stops. The windows are 1/1 sashes throughout, with sills and chamfered surrounds; most have hoodmoulds with foliate stops, while the canted bay is embattled. There is a decorative band on the first floor, and a moulded eaves cornice. A decorative quatrefoil is set within a recessed, chamfered square niche in the front gable, which is topped with a pinnacle. Chimneys are located at the ends of the building.

The interior retains original joinery and plasterwork, including a staircase with elongated onion-shaped balusters on bobbin spindles.

Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828. Number 68 forms a group with the even-numbered properties 62-70 in Binswood Avenue.
