Description

Waverley is a villa dating from around 1860, with later modifications. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and ashlar copings. The building is two storeys high with three windows on the first floor. A projecting range to the left is gabled, featuring a canted bay window on the ground floor. The villa has a chamfered plinth. There are three roll-edged steps leading up to the central entrance, which has a six-panel door within a chamfered, segmental-arched opening under a hoodmould with face stops. All windows are 1/1 sash windows with sills and chamfered surrounds, with the exception of those in the bay window that lack hoodmoulds. The canted bay is embattled. A decorative band runs along the first floor, and there is a moulded eaves cornice. A decorative quatrefoil is set within a recessed, chamfered square niche in the front gable, topped by a pinnacle. The building has copings and end stacks. The interior has not been inspected. Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828, and Waverley forms part of a group with numbers 62-70 (even) on Binswood Avenue.
