Description
The building is a threshing barn located to the north of Blackdown Farmhouse, dating from the early to mid 18th century, with some early and mid 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, featuring timber-framed gables with brick nogging and a plain tile roof from the 20th century. The barn consists of three bays and has breather openings on all sides at each end.
The southwest front includes a central doorway that has an early 20th century infill panel and later 20th century doors. To the left of the doorway is a stable door, and to the right is an early 20th century lean-to addition that is weatherboarded, with one mid 20th century brick wall. The gables exhibit timber framing with brick nogging, with the northwest gable being partly renewed. The northeast side features mid 20th century brick infill and glazing around the central door. There is also a late 19th century blind lean-to addition on the left side.
Inside, the barn has a principal rafter roof supported by queen post trusses, double purlins, and a ridge piece. There are straight wind braces at the southeast end. At the northwest end, there is a framed partition, likely from the 19th century, built on a brick and stone plinth wall. On the northeast side, there is a 19th century brick pier to the right of the central door.
