Description

The property at 8 Church Lane is a circa 1600 timber-framed cottage that has been extended over time. A bay was added to the east in the 19th century, and another bay to the west in the 20th century, connecting to an 18th-century barn that is now incorporated into the house and garage. The original part of the house has painted brick and rendered infill panels. The entire structure is roofed with thatch, with gabled ends. The front facade has two storeys and a four-window arrangement, featuring two and three-light casement windows with leaded panes, alongside a small oriel bay window with a tiled roof. An old oak plank door is sheltered by a thatched hood. The 19th-century addition to the east is also two storeys high and one bay wide, sharing a continuous thatched roof with the original section, and features a brick modillion eaves cornice. A modern outshut with a thatched roof and seven casement windows with leaded panes is also present. The original house and extension have three brick ridge chimney stacks. A single-storey modern addition to the west links the cottage to the former barn, which is of brick construction with a steeply pitched plain tile roof and gabled ends, standing one storey high with an attic. Inside, the timber framing is exposed, and there are chamfered ceiling beams, oak panelling, inglenook fireplaces, and an old oak half-turn staircase.
