Description

This is a thatched cottage dating from around 1600, with extensions added in the 18th century and 20th century. The original timber frame is now plastered, and the roof is thatched. Originally a three-bay cottage with a chimney stack at the west end of the middle bay, it was later extended to the west by one bay and divided at the stack to create two cottages. A single-storey extension was added to the northeast around 1974. The south elevation has four 20th-century casement windows and two more in eyebrow dormers. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Internally, some of the timber framing is exposed, displaying features such as curved tension bracing trenched to the inside of studs, jowled storey posts, and a cambered tiebeam in the original section. The later extension has primary straight bracing. Graffiti on the chimney stack, dated 1781, is visible. A bread oven from the 18th century is located to the north of the stack.
