Description
Crippings Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century and early 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring peg tile roofs. The building is primarily two storeys with attics and has an 'L' plan layout, consisting of a two-storey block oriented north/south and a lower two-storey block at the northwest corner. This lower block includes a single-storey extension with a pantiled roof and a weatherboarded east wall. At the north end of this block is another single-storey section with a gabled roof. The main block has a continuous catslide roof that extends over an earlier single-storey structure, which features a gabled stair tower that rises through the roof slope and a larger rear wall stack. The front and sides of the main block are finished with ashlared plaster and include double-hung sash windows with margin glazing and moulded surrounds. The central entrance door is topped by an early 19th-century flat hood. Inside, there is a wide inglenook fireplace with a moulded mantel beam, numerous old doors, and a short section of stair handrail from the 17th century. The rear lean-to features diamond mullion windows and ventilated louvre partitions used as a pantry. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
