Description
Brown's Cottage is a late 17th-century lobby-entrance house that has been extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with a thatched roof. The building consists of three bays aligned east-west and has an axial chimney stack at the west end of the middle bay, which creates the lobby entrance. At the west end, there are two single-storey extensions: one is a lean-to and the other has a flat roof, both dating from the 20th century.
On the south elevation, there is a 20th-century bay window with a tiled hipped roof and imitation diamond glazing, along with a plain door that has a tiled hipped porch, also from the 20th century. The original tiled gabled dormer includes a 20th-century casement window. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Inside, some timber framing is exposed, showcasing primary straight bracing, unjowled wall posts, straight tie beams, and all construction is pegged.
