Description
Beadles Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century, with extensions added in the 17th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The original structure consisted of two bays, with the eastern bay being storeyed and the western bay open from the ground to the roof, featuring an end chimney stack on the western side. In the 17th century, a floor was inserted in the western bay, and an additional bay was added beyond the chimney stack. Historical photographs show a single-storey extension to the north of the eastern bay, which was removed in 1975. A new single-storey extension and porch were added to the west during extensive renovations. The cottage is single-storey with attics and features 20th-century casement windows on the northern side, including one gabled dormer in the middle bay. The roof is half-hipped at both ends, with evidence of a former unglazed window below the eastern half-hip. On the ground floor, the partition between the eastern and middle rooms has been removed. There is a 17th-century newel stair located to the south of the stack, which is in good condition.
