Description
29 Church Street is a small cottage dating from the early 19th century, finished in stucco. The cottage has a pitched slate roof with a gable that is positioned at right angles to the road. It is one storey high with an attic. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century three-light casement window set beneath a segmental arch, along with a plank door located under a gabled wooden porch. The first floor features a 19th-century sash window, also under a segmental arch. There is an outshut against the north wall and a large rendered chimney stack. A plaque on the gable facing the road commemorates Joseph Arch, who was born here in 1826 and died here in 1919. Joseph Arch was a pioneer who transformed conditions for agricultural workers and later became the Member of Parliament for north-west Norfolk before retiring to Barford.
