Description
This building is a barn that has been converted into a malthouse, located approximately 35 metres north of Number 25, known as The Malt House. The exact date of construction is uncertain, but it is likely from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior features lias stone with alternating narrow courses and larger square blocks, while the additions have narrower and more irregular coursing. The roof is slate, topped with a ball finial on the left gable and a square timber ventilator near the right end. The structure consists of six bays, with an addition on the right that is set back but continues the roofline. There is a door on the left, a central door to the first floor accessed by external stairs, and paired doors to the addition in an altered opening. The ground floor has three small openings, while the first floor has two openings, two of which feature segmental brick arches. Inside, the floor appears to be a later addition, and the roof structure has been altered, featuring two trenched purlins and a collar, with a tie beam that has been cut through and diagonal braces inserted.
