Description

The Old Malthouse is a late 16th-century timber-framed barn that was converted into a malthouse in the late 18th century and later transformed into a house in the late 20th century. It features pantiled roofs and consists of a five-bay barn running east-west, with a kiln added to the east gable under a pyramid roof. The south side has a late 18th-century outshut with a gabled transept entrance, while the west gable of the original barn has a gabled extension. The building has one and two storeys, with additions that are brick-faced and partly rendered. The windows include late 20th-century roof lights, and the kiln roof retains its smoke louvre at the apex.

Inside, the five-bay barn has jowled principal studs with arched braces supporting the chamfered tie beams. The roof is an early 18th-century replacement, featuring some curved wind braces, two tiers of butt purlins, principal rafters, and collars. The interior was floored in the late 18th century and again in the late 20th century.
