Description
31 and 31A Ipswich Street is a shop, now a building society, with a flat above. This 17th-century timber-framed house has been altered in the 19th century and again in 1974. The exterior is pebbledashed and white-washed, topped with a slate roof. The building has two storeys and a dormer attic in one bay. A 20th-century plate-glass shopfront is present, along with a single two-light casement window from the late 20th century, which obscures the shadow of a 17th-century mullioned window behind it. The gabled roof features one sloping dormer fitted with an early 20th-century metal casement. There is a gault brick internal gable-end stack on the south side. The ground floor has been completely updated in the late 20th century, while the upper floors have not been inspected but are likely to hold more historical interest.
